I bought 4 Chipolos during their Kickstarter campaign. I originally rated the app 3 stars, but came back today to downgrade it and them. My Chipolos never worked well (spotty range, no way to turn off notifications in a "home zone," irregular GPS check-ins, etc.), and they stopped working entirely about 3 mos after I received them (their battery life was estimated at 6 mos). When I changed the batteries, three of the four Chipolos began functioning again. The internal components of the fourth came out when I removed its casing, so unfortunately, that one no longer functions at all. Frankly, Chipolos dont work well enough to really find anything thats been lost. Waste of money.
It looks like the app executes background task every minute for something like 15-50 seconds - at least thats what I found with Energy Diagnostics Instruments. As result, my iPhone 4s gets discharged virtually in a few hours. Please fix it.
Very difficult not at all user friendly, I think that the only people who like this are the Chipolo maker and founder. If it could be reduced in size it would work great on other objects .. As for Now. What a waste of money.. Dont waste yours like I did.. Tim
I have three Chipolos that I use solely to locate my keys that my toddler likes to hide under pillows, blankets, cushions, etc. and they have saved me a lot of time by allowing me to locate them with an audible beep. That was with the 1.x version of the app and it was worked great. However, with the 2.0 version, they now require me to create an account with them to use the app. I just want to find keys in my house! I dont see why I should be forced to use yet another "social network" with another company that is keeping track of where my house is, my workplace, and my kids daycare. To add insult to injury, the new app not only requires me to either "sign in" or "create a new account" (I dont see a skip option), it crashes immediately upon selecting either option so I cant even use the Chipolos I have regardless. I understand that the Chipolo working hard to compete with "the other white Bluetooth keyfob," but in doing so, they forgot that they have users who simply want to use it to find things in their own homes without any frills, hassles, nor invasion of privacy.
Great looking design, that goes for the app as well. My problem is that even when in a quiet zone in getting alerts saying Im connected, Im disconnected and that can be quite annoying. Last night the chipolo kept beeping on my keys while we laid in bed. I ended up having to get up and remove the battery. Keep updating your app please I want these to work, so far though it feels half finished and glitchy.
This is a very visually attractive app that is difficult to use. There is almost no text in the primary interface — its all symbols. Once those have been explored, the app is fairly usable, and I was able to configure my device. Not bad for a one-off app for a single hardware device. Also, I didnt use it, but the cloud integration seems promising.
I was first intrigued by the idea of a bluetooth finder with the ubiquitous Tile launch campaign. However, I quickly learned that after Tiles release, it received pretty poor reviews. So I read several blogs in late 2014 that championed Chipolo as best of its type - best range, best battery life, easiest to swap out the batteries. So I ordered my first two Chipolos, which arrived early January, about a month and a half ago. When I opened my 1st Chipolo, I took the pull tab out and decided to open it up to see just how easy it was to change out the batteries. They were thoughtful enough to include an extra battery, which would supposedly guarantee me around a year before having to run to the store to buy another. When I went to snap the Chipolo back together, part of the hardware inside chipped off and no matter how hard I tried to fix it, it was inevitable that a crucial piece had been fractured and it was immediately a lost cause. I chalked it up to me not being careful enough and that the devices must just be extremely fragile. My second Chipolo lasted for about a month on my key ring. Initially, I was bothered by the constant issue with the Chipolo going in and out of range and chiming repeatedly, due to the GPS being pretty inaccurate at times. I learned how to disable notifications and set my quiet zones to be have a pretty large range to account for any mistakes. The disconnecting issues stayed a problem, sometimes going hours before updating its location on the app. I reasoned that a buggy finder was better than no finder at all and that at the very least I’d be able to use the locator feature to make the Chipolo chime if I lost my keys somewhere in the house. I ordered my 3rd Chipolo to replace the 1st broken one, since I still wanted one inside my wallet for the same purpose. I had a good week or so with both functioning decently until the 2nd Chipolo stopped updating its location. I tried replacing the battery with all of those extras that I had amassed and it would no longer chime. I left it on in hopes that eventually it would pick up again, but had no luck. I contacted customer service and they told me that frequently the piece that connects to the battery becomes pushed in too far and no longer makes contact, and to try to push it out again. This didn’t work. Then about a week and a half later, the 3rd Chipolo suffered the same fate. So in total, my 1st broke on day one and my 2nd and 3rd died just weeks later. The mobile interface is pretty nice, and the company has thought of some great ideas, but the hardware itself is too buggy and too fragile for it to be considered a reliable bluetooth finder at this point.
My Chipolo died the other day, right out of the blue. Its not the battery because I changed that out about 3 weeks ago. Ive never thrown, got wet, or sat on it. Pretty disappointing.
The best there is, it works very well.
1. The find my phone when you shake chip doesnt work. 2. The find in the map feature doesnt work. 3. The sound isnt that loud when you send a signal to the chip. 4. There are no instructions anywhere (even on the website). (Like what do the numbers mean near a connected chip? Its not the degree you have to turn.) 5. They have no customer service and dont respond to emails.
I opened this device to insert the battery and I could not close it . This is really poor design and low quality device . Its seem that this company do not have any quality assurance at all
I bought 5 of these for my animals. I had them for about a week before they stopped working. Emailed on the chipolo website several times without a single response. Im in marketing and have made sure to pass the word around about how they dont work and how they ignore problem emails. This was originally written over a year ago and they still dont work and customer service hasnt answered probably around 20 emails. Avoid this company.
I LOVE IT!!!! Havent lost anything yet! Works great!! App is user friendly too!!! Youve got to get one!!
I downloaded the app and created account. I received the verification email but the link does not work. I get 404 not found message. I tried copying the link and Paste it in multiple browsers and got same results. Disappointed!
I wish to God this thing worked. It worked for about 2 weeks. Now it barely works and definitely not when I need it.
It works like its supposed to, looks cute on my keychain, and the little alarm tune is pleasant. The app is easy to use. I have no complaints.
I only have one Chipolo, but its a neat little device. Probably going to buy a few more. App works very well. One hint though, disable "shake to find iPhone" for keys or youll find it interrupting music on your phone when you walk / run.
The red notification badge never goes away, even when everything has been located. It always seems as if it is indicating something needs to be resolved. I like the device! It has saved me a few times when I couldnt quite find my keys right away! Loved it so much, bought one for my mom and sister!
The device is great, will be buying a few more soon. The app lacks one simple feature, change temperature to Celsius. Where I live we dont use Fahrenheit at all! Its a simple thing, please implement this! Also it would be great if we can somehow use the app/device without needing the app open at all times, but I think thats an iOS restriction.
